QUEZON CITY: HIVE HOTEL AND CONVENTION CENTER

The heavy downpour was an unnecessary backdrop one weekend.  For work commitments, I arrived late and in time for dinner.  My friends were positioned on their respective beds lounging and watching television.  It was a weekend forecasted for the lazy selves we have.

The Hive Hotel and Convention Center will be our lair.  Though situated a block away from the entertainment strips of Quezon City – Timog and Tomas Morato Avenue and despite the fact that I frequent these streets when time is available, I have never heard of this eco-friendly hotel.

The hotel is relatively new and indeed presents a unique interior concept with an advocacy for its existence.  It presents itself as a green hotel.

Fancy restaurants, theaters, shopping malls and public plazas are but some of the many usual rendezvous and venues for the so-called romantic dates on a Valentine’s Day.  Whoever said it should be commercialized must be coursed.  (the bitter self speaking)

Then an event came for us to gather at the newest luxurious designer hostel situated at the center of the business district of Makati City.

We are at the Junction Hostels of Makati.

In time for dinner, we stood at one corner of Makati, as we alight from the cab and gazed the façade of Junction Hostels sans the traffic congestion and picky cab drivers. It was a totally different side of Makati.  We were standing next to one of the owners, the lovely Ms. Cyndy Tan Jarabata.

It’s the first weekend getaway of the group for this year.  And where are we heading to? To the SM Mall of Asia.  Yes, we converged at the Mall of Asia but not to shop or dine rather it was our gateway to a 90-minute drive via the Cavitex-Ternate-Nasugbu route for a yet another luxurious tapped with exclusivity weekend stay at Hamilo Coast.

Hamilo Coast is an expansive 5,900 hectare property located in Nasugbu, Batangas with 13 coves, a 31-kilometer coastline, said to be rich in marine life and abundant flora and fauna.  Fortunately, we were invited to the first development in the “Premier Sustainable Coastal Resort Town” of Hamilo Coast which is Pico de Loro, a 40-hectare residential village inside the Hamilo Coast.

A newly-opened business hotel rose up a few meters from where I live.  Known for the newly-opened mall (Fishers Mall) and other night clubs along Quezon Avenue, it was an unexpected discovery that the area harbors an accommodation with an ostentatious façade catering to both pleasure and business transients.

For yet another weekend, we are at the newly opened Brentwood Suites situated at 6 Dr. Garcia Sr. Quezon City.  And it became the most relaxing staycation I had - pure bliss and relaxation.

Hotel rates skyrocketed.  It was days before the New Year celebration and visitors mostly from mainland China and a few from other countries like us flocked Macau. The challenge to locate accommodations near the city center and the convenience of free shuttle buses began.

My entire family will be spending the New Year’s eve in Hongkong but we decided to enter Macau first from Manila.  Browsing upon the list of hotels and sorting the cheapest one at that, we were lead to a street named after my maternal grandfathers’ surname.  All along I thought we have Spanish lineage, I was surprised I am of Portuguese descent (hahaha).  And so we checked in for three nights at Riviera Hotel Macau situated at Rua Do Comendador.

Refreshing scents of pines makes one to be rejuvenated by nature.

Isn’t it everyone’s dream to wake up one morning with the sliding door to the balcony half-opened as the drop of the curtains sway with the gentle breeze of the wind amidst a landscape of towering and scenic pine trees and mountains?

I did so.  It was an imagination so I thought that came into reality as we stayed for three days at one of the luxurious hotels of Camp John Hay, Baguio City – the Le Monet Hotel.

A few blocks from where I live, the busy intersection of the Quezon City district comes alive at night.  By the strike of six in the evening, an ensemble of travel bloggers gathered for a buffet dinner and an overnight drinking spree stay in one of its main hotels.

It was a get together to meet Rain of Words and Wanderlust and Ron of Flip'n travels, as they take a very short break from work in Australia and Singapore, respectively.  Along with the same cast, Hotel Rembrandt of Quezon City became a familiar rendezvous.

Have you ever been to your dream destination?  I did.

It was another day at the streets.  The sky was clear and the trees sway with the humming of the cold breeze of the wind.  The fusion of the traditional and the modern architectural landscape is evident on the towering skyscrapers that surround.  The charm of the narrow lanes transcend to each passers-by aura ranging from serene to an overflow of merrymakers.  It was an ordinary day at an extraordinary place.  I was finally at Tokyo, Japan.

Winter in Xian City, China
Spring in Beijing China
Summer in Shanghai, China
Fall in Japan.

Sans the snow and the white Christmas dreamed of, the four seasons were completed in my journey abroad as a traveler.  I celebrated my birthday in the Kansai Region of Japan in a too early autumn season.  Though not in full colors, the chilly nights began to be felt and the autumn foliage surreptitiously transforming manifested.

It really seemed like a path towards the forest.  Passing by alleys devoid of streetlights, we arrived at Deep Forest Garden Hotel of Puerto Princesa City.

Peace and love goes hand in hand.  When attached as a simple hotel name, it becomes unnecessary to delve into the details of why it has come about.  Not the usual resort near the shorelines of the longest beach in the Philippines, the resort is nestled on top of a hill with an infinity pool that gives a panoramic detail of what Palawan is known for.

Metaphorically and literally speaking, peace and love during vacation is not that hard to find in San Vicente, Palawan.

Puerto Princesa City is the gateway to varied island destinations of Palawan province.  With the quest to bathe along the longest beach in the Philippines (who says Southeast Asia?) and be on board for the first trip the next day, we decided to have an overnight stay at Ascendo Suites – relatively a short distance from the bus terminal.

The skies have cleared and the moon was at its brightest and nearest to the Earth on one Sunday evening.  It was a rare natural phenomenon, “a supermoon”, as they call it and here we are in a hotel named after a moon Luna.

Coincidentally, the hotel’s name completed our share of the hyped supermoon experience.   It was an unexpected and last minute invitation as we were ready to leave the only heritage city in the Philippines with a heavy heart.

En route to Metro Manila, laughter and never-ending exchange of imaginative stories filled the trip.  And to even provide a pleasant parting surprise, the skies turned in hues of orange as the sun sets on one Sunday afternoon along with a sighting of a majestic cloud formation which only science can explain.

That was the end of our Caliraya, Laguna weekend getaway.  A two-day adventure and fun with travel blogger friends.

Where it all started?  On an early Saturday morning at HM Transport Terminal, Cubao Station, Quezon City, bound for Caliraya Springs at the Mountain Lake Resort of Laguna.

Felicity. Felicitas. Felicidades.

All of the above pertains to happiness. Seeking felicity for a transient stay is definitely attainable while in the only UNESCO World Heritage City in the Philippines – Vigan, Ilocos, Sur.

Apt for the hotel’s name, Hotel Felicidad gives every visitor a warm welcome and happiness while in the city, a luxurious stay amidst the fun of discovering and rediscovering the rich cultural heritage, tradition and cuisine of the city and the Ilocos region, in general.

the island in Tambobong given with so many names
A typhoon left the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The sun decided to shine with all its might yet the traces of drops of rainfall during the night remained on the unpaved, bumpy and long winding road towards a coastal municipality. That was the day I together with travel buddies, Christian and  Carla  were bound to Tambobong White Beach, Dasol, Pangasinan.

Situated at Tapuac District, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, the new addition to the tourism landmarks of the city promises a relaxing stay and an accessible vantage point to other equally important tourist attractions of Dagupan.

Hotel Le Duc is a five-storey hotel built with a purpose.  It serves as a training ground for students of the Lyceum Northwestern University under the College of International Tourism and Hotel Management.

Luxurious accommodation that comes with affordable rates.  A complete contrast from the suburban neighborhood, Guijo Suites sits in a quiet alley of Makati City that offers an elegant stay yet budget-friendly.

Guijo Street of Makati have been in my directory list because of the bar named Saguijo, where I usually hang out during my days as a student.  Not until I together with siblings decided to stay in a hotel near the Chinese embassy did I learn that a calming ambiance of an accommodation sits in the center of an urban jungle, that is, the Guijo Suites. Weekend warriors on the loose.  Families and friends in search of a place to bond.  Backpackers eager to discover the world on a shoestring budget.  Lovers wanting to create memories in what they perceive would last a lifetime. And finally, the soul searchers.

All of the above can travel armed with their respective missions to the easiest escape from the heat of the Metropolitan Manila, that is, Tagaytay City.   A glimpse of the iconic Taal Volcano island in the middle of the lake is the common point of interest for most visitors, thus, search for accommodations poses a challenge. Fortunately, there is now a specialty lodging house that comes with an affordable rate and proximate to the best vantage points in the city.  Our Melting Pot Tagaytay situated at 75 Smokey Hill Maharlika Subdivision, Tagaytay City should be your choice.
