ASCOTT MACAU: PRIVACY IN THE MECCA OF CASINO RESORTS

The flashing neon lights that hovers around the city was apparent.  Even from a distance and as we disembark from the plane, the changing neon lights of the casino hotels of Macau Peninsula and the Cotai Strip is truly one for the books.

But in this mecca of gambling, glitz and luxury, there stood one unique establishment.  Contrary to the sounds and footsteps heard of on the lobbies of the usual casino resort hotel, the Ascott Macau offers a different perspective of Macau.  The traffic within the confines of the hotel is limited and the ambiance is relaxing with a homey vibe, more so, that the non-gaming hotel is specially-designed as a home away from home hotel.

TURBO JET: THE CLASSY SEA TRAVEL EXPERIENCE TO CHINA’S SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGIONS

Never had the sea been calm each time I travel to Macau or Hongkong via ferry.  The motion sickness that I once had when I was on my younger years has slowly been eradicated by the constant trips that I have while on open sea.

This time, I am glad I will be pampered on a luxurious 1 hour trip to and from Hongkong in an upgraded ticket of Premier Grand Class. The motion sickness was completely forgotten as I feast on the sumptuous and non-stop set meals offered while on board.  It was a feeling as if there is buffet lunch but travel time has been set as a time constraint.

MACAU | MESMERIZED AT THE HOUSE OF DANCING WATER SHOW

I’m quite choosy when it comes to watching theatrical shows.  During elementary and high school, we were trained to perform plays of varied adaptations to a huge number of crowd as if I have enrolled for acting classes and not for academics.  With this, I know how hard and costly it is to produce a show.

For big productions of cultural theatrical shows (water-based stage), the House of Dancing Water in Macau will be my second after the world’s largest stage production, Siam Niramit of Bangkok, Thailand.

In partnership with the Franco Dragone Entertainment Company through a recommendation of a friend and drinking buddy, we were invited to experience this once in a lifetime water extravaganza at premium seats.

The world-class show is housed at the City of Dreams Macau in a purpose-built theater designed with many breakthroughs including a stage pool that holds a record-breaking 3.7 million gallons of water(equivalent to 5 olympic-sized swimming pools).  Before we went to Macau, I was curious of how extravagant this show is, and so I made the research and was particularly amazed of the stunts.  What more if I witnessed it personally and up close?

THE LANDMARK MACAU: MORE THAN THE GRAND PRIX THIS IS YOUR HOME

The 2012 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Circuit was the last time I was fortunate to have witnessed the motor race and it was on my birthday.  I could still remember the high decibel produced that lingered in my senses for a number of hours.  Three years after, the “auto-body clock” instilled in me made me hear the familiar sounds once again.  I peeked through the window of where I was, and there I saw the fast moving cars on one closed pedestrian lane just beside my hotel – The Landmark Macau.

The Landmark Macau has become one of the best hotel choices in Macau since it started operations in November 2003 as the official hotel of the 50th Macau Grand Prix Golden Jubilee.

CASUAL BUFFET DINNER AT FOUR SEASONS HOTEL MACAU

The next twenty four hours was jam-packed and hectic.  We are scheduled to attend the theatrical show House of Dancing Water at the City of Dreams Macau at around eight in the evening.  Before that, fine dining was set for the group at one of Macau’s most luxurious hotels, Four Seasons Hotel Macau at the Cotai Strip.

I arrived early for the time set since Carla and Christian have to wait for Marx, who just arrived from Hongkong on that day on a series of unfortunate events. I was warmly welcomed by the gracious Director of Marketing, Mr. Julius Santos and Ms. Reginia Tam, Director of Public Relations as we wait for the group to be completed.

Smart casual will do as dress code for this fine dining ambiance at the Belcancao Restaurant.  There are four restaurants of the hotel which are equally world-class but we were reserved in a sumptuous buffet spread offering a fusion of western and Southeast Asian cuisine, with main focus on the Asian.

A FEAST AT THE 15TH MACAU FOOD FESTIVAL

Standing at the lobby of Metropole Hotel where my friends are checked-in, the hotels’ marketing manager asked about our travel plans for the day.  We looked at each other and answered “None.”  He then suggested that we try the Macau Food Festival and without any hesitation, we heeded the call.

Celebrated at the same time as the world-famous Macau Grand Prix, this is actually the 15th edition of the festival.  The event is organized by the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao and is set up at the Sai Van Lake Square from the 13th to 29th of November 2015.
