BEST WESTERN PLUS IVY WALL HOTEL PALAWAN

The flight turbulence was alarming.  I cared less for I have to take the much-needed nap.  I was seated at the farther end of the aircraft on an aisle seat, relatively comfortable.  After 1.5 hours, we arrived at Puerto Princesa International Airport.  No delayed flight.

It was as if everything came prepared and by the clock.  From the airport, a shuttle van picked us up and in less than 10 minutes, a new contemporary edifice of a modern and minimalist twist façade was right before our senses.  Our stay in Puerto Princesa, Palawan this time will be about the first international business hotel in the city – The Best Western Plus Ivy Wall Hotel.

UNESCO | PUERTO PRINCESA SUBTERRANEAN RIVER NATIONAL PARK

My parents and siblings were already in Puerto Princesa City days before I arrived.  I purchased another ticket as it is more costly to rebook one, for me to be able to join them one weekend in celebration of Father’s Day.  As we currently live independently from one another, special occasions and trips such as this serves as our reunion.

And the wanderlust in me is even more excited by the fact that my mother has already pre-arranged a tour to the UNESCO-inscribed Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.  And Yes, I haven’t been there.

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, a year in the life?

The year has just ended.  To say that my travel life on the year that was is a blast is an understatement.  For a quarter of the year, I was visible on the road, outside the confines of the space that I was accustomed to.  A year in the life of a semi-vagabond, can it really be measured?

With Palawan’s topography and geographical detail, island hopping is a default activity for any visitor of the province.  Puerto Princesa City itself may be less known for the nearby beaches, but it has islands that span the Honda Bay worthy of visit.

It really seemed like a path towards the forest.  Passing by alleys devoid of streetlights, we arrived at Deep Forest Garden Hotel of Puerto Princesa City.

Feeling relaxed and ready for another adventure, by the strike of four in the morning, Carla and I rode the tricycle towards the bus terminal of Puerto Princesa City.  During the night before, we were told that the first air-conditioned van leaves at five in the morning bound for San Vicente, Palawan.  Unfortunately, the van just left in a matter of seconds as we arrived at the terminal.  Van schedule is indeed not fixed.  But a non air-conditioned bus was there to the rescue.
