JASMINE RESTAURANT- THE ORIENTAL HOTEL AND RESORT- LEYTE

by - 12:06 AM

Right at the site of one of the greatest naval battles in Philippine history sits in a 10-hectare expansive beach known as the Red Beach at Palo, Leyte.  The latter is now a home to Eastern Visayas' finest and only first-class resort hotel - The Oriental Leyte.

During my childhood days, I had so many memories of the McArthur Park Beach Resort and Hotel, where noticeable is the fact that the structures and amenities were starting to dilapidate.  Now, like an ugly duckling the same has been transformed into a beautiful swan renaming it as The Oriental Leyte.

Sometime on February of this year, a good friend of mine celebrated her birthday at the resort and so I went home from Manila and had an overnight stay at the hotel.  It was a superb and fun-filled experience.  The hotel boasts of 110 modern guest rooms, conference facilities that can accommodate a maximum of 800 persons in one sitting and a restaurant offering international and local cuisine called Jasmine.

Last 29 June 2013, to culminate the month-long celebration of the feast of Sto. Nino de Tacloban, I was fortunate to have been invited by the management of The Oriental Hotel Leyte together with some of the countries' best travel bloggers for a dinner and to try the sumptuous and delectable cuisine and high quality of service the Jasmine Restaurant offers.

I actually arrived late for the dinner, as I still have to catch up with some childhood friends in Tacloban City.  I was accompanied by good friends Agnelli and Alejo as we were bound to party again afterwards. Nevertheless, I was still on time for the main course and the fun-filled bonding with fellow Pinoy Travel Bloggers.

We were joined by the hotels' General Manager as well as their Sales Manager, Jefrie Mendoza.

The dinner started with a Seafood Chowder Soup (a cream based soup mixed with fish, clams and crabmeat). Then, the following dishes were served:

Kilawin na Tanigue
(raw fish tanigue mixed with vinegar, spices and coconut milk)

Hinatukan na Manok
(Native chicken cooked in thick coconut milk)

Pinakbet
(Sauteed vegetables with special shrimp paste and special toppings of pork bits)

Beef Kalderata
(Chunks of stewed beef sauteed in olive oil, garlic, fresh tomatoes and slow cooked to perfection)

Pannacotta
(Italian dessert made with simmered cream milk, sugar and mixed with gelatin)
It was a fun-filled dinner and bonding with fellow Pinoy Travel Bloggers.  The dishes were indeed well-presented and representative of the local cuisine offered by Eastern Visayas to its various visitors.  My personal favorite was the Hinatukan na Manok, which is every Waraynon's favorite as well.  We are actually fond of any dish associated with coconut milk.

Special thanks to Ramil Delos Reyes of PinasMuna for making this dinner possible.
