THE RUF RESTO BAR OF FERRA HOTEL BORACAY

Boracay Island is known for its vibrant nightlife.  There are a lot of activities to choose from while enjoying the sea breeze and the coldness of the night.  But not all visitors would prefer dining by the beach.

There is one stand-out roof deck bar in the island of Boracay which is gaining popularity among both locals and touristS.  Why?  It is relatively isolated from the beachfront but ambiance is perfect for relaxation – just in line with most visitors’ reason for being in the island - to relax and simply enjoy the moment.

This one-of-a-kind roof deck bar is the in-house restaurant of the Ferra Hotel – the Ruf Resto Bar.  And it never runs out of surprises – from the excellent hospitality service to the menu selections it have.

BORACAY ISLAND: CROWN REGENCY RESORT AND CONVENTION CENTER

The famed White Beach of Stations 1 to 3 is the norm when one exclaims I’ve been to Boracay Island.  But things have changed in my perspective.  To be specific, I haven’t set foot on the white beach of Boracay Island on my last visit to the island one weekend.

On a rainy weekend, together with a few of the best travel buddies I had, we took refuge at Station 2’s landmark - Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center.  Though not a beach front resort accommodation, the experience was more than sufficient for a different kind of Boracay experience – it was jam-packed and comforting at the same time.

THE AFTERNOON STROLL FROM WHITE BEACH TO DINIWID BEACH

Realizing that we were trapped for hours within the confines of our hotel room, watching television and activating social network accounts, we decided to move and heed the call of exploration.

This will be my first time to walk past Station 1 of the famed White Beach and discover another beach of the island –Diniwid.

WHAT MAKES STAR LOUNGE OF THE DISTRICT BORACAY DIFFERENT?

There are only a few in-house restaurants that serves Brunch Buffet.  For an island known for parties and non-stop drinking sprees, mornings would never be for night owls.  When we were in Bali, Indonesia, the general manager of the hotel where we are staying once said, that with the many hotels that sprout in the island, in order to stay at par or ahead of the competition, the offer for breakfast matters.  And the same holds true for Boracay Island.

The Star Lounge of The District Boracay is one good choice for a dining experience while at the island.  The choice is not only for breakfast but an all-day fine and casual dining to suit every guests’ preference.

I have to say gone are the days when Boracay Island’s luxurious beachfront comfort and vibrant nightlife is at Station 1.  The party goers have migrated and took their perfect spot at Station 2.  Our group for one has been a mainstay of aligned beachfront bars of Station 2 every night.  And there is one perfect vantage to experience luxury at this side of Boracay.

Fortunately, we had confirmed reservations at The District Boracay – the perfect way to experience the “ideal” island life.

UNFORGETTABLE NIGHTS AT BORACAY ISLAND

Time spent in Boracay has always been equated to building unforgettable memories.  What more if the visit falls on your birth month and the yearning to just enjoy every moment exudes? I could still remember how it felt being at Boracay Island for the first time.  The hype and the bragging of those who’ve been to the island never moved my skeptic self.  My expectations were not met and I was disappointed.  The month after, I returned with the same set of friends in tow under the same season but the experience drastically changed.  Since then, I have learned to love the island as it is and went back more than five times since the year 2012.

This year is quite different – unexpectedly the best of all my stays in Boracay with pure fun, less hangovers and with the best and favorite travel buddies I have.  Nightlife in Boracay is a given but we have to be with the right crowd.  Mornings by the shorelines and night at bars is just the perfect itinerary I have been wanting to experience.  And which I have achieved.

white house boracay hotel

If there is one hotel in Boracay Island that I had fond memories of, it is the White House Boracay.  Exactly three years ago, I shared memories with other guests and close friends drinking beer and cocktails, engaging in a gastronomic seafood feast and simply witnessing a day unfold in one corner of the hotel’s Beach Lounge.

Fast forward on one morning of September 2015 (days after my birthday), my travel buddies and I were positioned at the beach front with an obstructed view on account of the season, necessarily composed of white rattan loungers, parasols and soft cushions, making it a perfect sanctuary and a moment for me to reflect and rekindle the memories of what has been.  I surely miss my friends who I was with years ago as majority of them migrated abroad, others missing (by choice) while I opted to stay as is for the practice of my profession, BUT, new and happier memories were created while I came back to the island with my closest friends in travel and I am grateful that they were my companions in making a comeback to a very memorable hotel.

PUKA BEACH OF BORACAY ISLAND

Late afternoon and the weather was good.  The time was perfect to unwind and be at a secluded place.  At the northern tip of Boracay Island which was once upon a time known for puka shells, I felt privileged - privileged of the opportunity to once again declare that indeed Boracay Island has one of the world’s best beaches. Aligned traditional canoes and souvenir shops greeted us along the way as the fine white sand along the shores and amidst the perfect cyan waters immediately came in view.

I was at Puka Beach (Yapak Beach) one of the famed beaches of Boracay and a complete contrast to the dense White Beach.

Fun is relative when in Boracay Island.  The mood of stay is set by the accommodation one has while in the island.  For the many times I’ve been to the island, I have always booked my accommodations at the beach front, where fire dancers make their presence as the center of attention during night, where friends and families converge to dine near the shores, where party goers do the merry making and drinking spree for as long as they can withstand and where commerce is heightened even at the wee hours of the morning.  And every morning back then, I was always nursing a hangover.  This time is quite different.  At this recent visit, I was relatively a few blocks away from the sounds and the party scene of Boracay Island, in my new home, the 5-month old The Ferra Hotel Boracay.

A different perspective but of the same fun and contentment summarizes my stay in the island while taken cared of at the Ferra Hotel.

ONE DAY IN BORACAY DURING HABAGAT SEASON

There are times that long weekends are intended for staying at home, watch downloaded movies and TV series and sleep inasmuch as you want as a complete rest.  But intentions can be made into shattered pieces when your brother is booking the entire family for a long weekend at Boracay Island.

Off-peak season it is, we were booked on a cheap flight to Boracay Island a week before intended stay.  Visiting the island during these times is not new to me but for most of those times in my party-goer past, the days were for slumber and nights for partying.  No other itinerary.

This time is quite different.

Most of the travels I had for the year 2011 are on islands and beaches.  One particular destination which I have been dreaming to visit since childhood is the Boracay Island.  While everyone is complaining about its commercialization and its natural deterioration, these are all hearsay for me as I have to experience it first hand and do my self-assessment.  I have been to so many beach destinations, but it's quite embarrassing that I can't give any insight on the most visited Boracay Island of the Philippines.  Thus, the plan to visit as part of my birthday celebration.
