UNFORGETTABLE NIGHTS AT BORACAY ISLAND
Time spent in Boracay has always been equated to building unforgettable memories. What more if the visit falls on your birth month and the yearning to just enjoy every moment exudes? I could still remember how it felt being at Boracay Island for the first time. The hype and the bragging of those who’ve been to the island never moved my skeptic self. My expectations were not met and I was disappointed. The month after, I returned with the same set of friends in tow under the same season but the experience drastically changed. Since then, I have learned to love the island as it is and went back more than five times since the year 2012.
This
year is quite different – unexpectedly the best of all my stays in Boracay with
pure fun, less hangovers and with the best and favorite travel buddies I have. Nightlife in Boracay is a given but we have
to be with the right crowd. Mornings by
the shorelines and night at bars is just the perfect itinerary I have been
wanting to experience. And which I have
achieved.
The Night Scene
When
price of beers drop down during happy hours which usually end at around 7PM and
starts at 9AM, depending on the establishment, we were busy exploring. The drinking spree may have started but the
dance floors are relatively empty.
Hopping from one bar to another is quite fun when you have the right
dosage of alcohol intake.
First Night: After check-in and arriving midnight at Station 1 of the island, we decided to have our dinner at Station 2 somewhere near D’Mall, necessarily walking by the shores under the bright full moon. Passing by Paraw Club where loud music echoed through the shores of Station 1, guests flaunted their dance moves while one run towards the shore screaming and expecting someone will go after her. We have to experience that kind of euphoria. Whatever must have been running through her mind, we can’t judge her for as long as she’s happy.
There
were no fire dancers performing. No
tables set up at the beachfront of Station 2 that night. Most bars have called it off. We had our delayed dinner (more like early
breakfast) at Andoks. Barbeque and of course, chicken filled
our empty stomachs. (price range of PhP200 to PhP500 for a group meal). After dinner, we decided to drop by the Exit Bar.
The backpacker looks and the crowd of Caucasians, Japanese and
Chinese converging in one bar was inviting. At first, it looks so ordinary to me. But
as the dosage of beer increases and the dance floor became an intimate
acquaintance, the dance moves involuntarily came out. If felt good dancing barefoot. Until the bar closed and final bill was
given, we moved to Epic Bar to
continue dancing and meeting random strangers.
But beer is quite expensive and so we moved to the last bar on an early
morning stint. For a very expensive one
bucket of beer (PhP550.00) and a PhP100.00 per bottle, we decided to get the former
at Paraw Club. It’s more or less the same price as Epic but
near our hotel at Station 1 for a consolation.
It was early morning and we were as usual the last customers to leave
and the workers were already arranging the seats and doing the clean-up. I honestly did not enjoy the crowd of Paraw
(but that is just me).

Second Night:
The
night started at Ferra Hotel through an invitation for dinner. We feasted on delectable cuisine prepared by
the hotel at its rooftop bar. Videoke session follow and we decided to
move to Station 2 bars. At the Boracay
Uptown we took shelter for the drizzle and continued the sharing of stories
over buckets of beer. The game plan was
to be intoxicated before we hit our favorite bar – Exit Bar.
The
Exit Bar appears like a hideout for the artists and the artist by heart. We had so much fun dancing and drinking that
we almost forgot we have friends who will arrive early morning. While waiting for my turn to the toilet, someone
introduced himself as “the legend”, a heavily-tattooed man who seems popular to
the crowd- a mainstay I suppose and asking me if I’m Korean or Japanese. That was how interesting every personality is
within the confines of the bar. Then
there’s the server we named “Jack Sparrow” (for similarity of facial features)
who attended to our needs until the bar closed.
And we’re always consistent like that – the last customers to go.
THE FEAST AT FERRA RUF BAR |
We
moved to Epic Bar – the usual routine - and the merry making/drinking spree
continues until we realized it is early morning and we already have enough
dosage. And so we called it a day and
went back to the hotel, walking the main thoroughfare (of concrete road) from
Station 2 to Station 1.
Third Night:
The
most memorable night in this recent Boracay Island visit happened on the third
night. I received a message from HeadRush Boracay, organizers of the
event named The Big Smoke Boracay, inviting us as VIP for their event at Insomnia Boracay Bar. And so we
heeded. The event started at ten in the
evening and lasted until sunrise. It was
our first stop for the night. During the
night, they launched Frushaxserzh, a Russian shisha made by Serzh Chuprakov,
known for creating hookahs from fresh fruits, which our group was privileged to
have tried the same for free.
The
usual routine followed. After a number
of beer intake and having set the mood at the dance floor, we moved to Exit Bar.
Enroute, an improvised shot glass of tanduay made its turn for the group. We had so much fun at Exit Bar that it would
be an understatement to say that we enjoyed the moment. There were times the dance floor was left to
our group and we cared less. And the
rest is history.

Fourth Night:
The
whole day was spent at the comforts of our room watching the television
directed at Filipino channels featuring local films. We attempted to go out but finally decided to
buy booze and chips at a nearby convenience store and drink while at the
comforts of our room.
Boracay Island may be known for the happy hours and unending parties and pub crawls but we opted to make our own. Truly, making my birth month one of the most memorable.
