MERANTI HOTEL: A HIDDEN SANCTUARY IN QUEZON CITY

I’ve been living in Quezon City for quite a number of years. But this is the first time I have heard of a hotel owned and managed by the famed Max’s Group. Yes, it is “the house that fried chicken built” or “sarap to the bones” tagline. This is actually their first venture into the hospitality industry.

In a quiet neighborhood at Scout Castor Street and with just a few walks, the vibrant nightlife of Quezon City is reached, there stood the Meranti Hotel.

RED PLANET HOTEL TIMOG QUEZON CITY: AN EXTENSION OF HOME

One weekend caught me by surprise. A few blocks from where I live, a walking distance as a matter of fact, my mom who will be in the metro for less than 24 hours, sister and I decided to stay in a boutique hotel.

We searched online and finally decided to book at Red Planet Timog. It was an impromptu booking originally intended for an overnight stay but my sister and I extended for 3 more days and 2 nights.

It was a weekend of comfort and destressing.

As soon as I entered the hotel, the pipes and ducts exposed complemented by the weathered gray cemented walls easily caught my attention. The unfinished and raw look of B Hotel’s interior design sets it apart from other hotels within the entertainment area of Timog and Morato Avenue, Quezon City.

The modern and grand façade of the hotel provides no clue of its unique industrial design concept. The unassuming name of the hotel must have been the clue for such a simple yet elegant interiors.

The elegant and large chandeliers that hang on a high ceiling over a two-sided grand staircase leading to a balcony easily caught my attention. The prominent signage that declares “The Buffet” fronts the national highway, Commonwealth Avenue to be specific, serving as an invitation to all.

Quezon City has been my home in Metro Manila. For the past years, I have been passing by the entertainment and media district of Timog and Tomas Morato Avenue as a usual rendezvous with friends. Now, majority of my friends migrated outside the country, some opted for a domesticated life and most of my constant hangout place have closed and drastically changed into offices and banks. Change is indeed inevitable.

Just when I thought I am familiar with Quezon City, a towering 14-storey high rise commercial building stood and became an instant landmark in Timog Avenue, now in the name of Luxent Hotel. It was a vacant lot years ago.
