MERANTI HOTEL: A HIDDEN SANCTUARY IN QUEZON CITY
I’ve
been living in Quezon City for quite a number of years. But this is the first time I have heard of a
hotel owned and managed by the famed Max’s Group. Yes, it is “the house that fried chicken built” or “sarap to the bones” tagline.
This is actually their first venture into the hospitality industry.
In
a quiet neighborhood at Scout Castor Street and with just a few walks, the
vibrant nightlife of Quezon City is reached, there stood the Meranti Hotel.
The
hotel was on its soft launch. I was
fortunate to be one of the very few first guests. The lobby and reception area is spacious of
high ceilings and ornaments mostly made of wood. Meranti is a mahogany-like wood usually used
for plywood and veneer. The façade of
the hotel actually features such type of Malaysian wood.
STANDARD ROOM
Basic room amenities are
featured in the standard room on which I was assigned. Interior design may appear to be of
industrial theme but it is actually just plain and simple. No frills.
Apart from the number of
wooden cabinets and drawers strategically positioned to project an economical
space, the LCD Smart TV is a standout feature of the room. Given that it has cable services, the TV also
provides hotel information, guest services and attractions nearby. Wifi
is also controlled through the use of the Smart TV. With its fast and reliable internet
connection, I could laze all day inside the room and stay connected with
friends and be social media updated.
There is a dividing wall
that is marble-tiled adjacent to the bathroom and toilet. Apart from the complimentary and witty-named
toiletries, I particularly like the lay-out of the bathroom as well. With a translucent glass door, privacy can
still be obtained if the room is shared with someone. The toilet comes with a bidet, which is
actually an important factor when I assess hotel room amenities.
Over-all, I love the room
layout, interior and amenities of Meranti Hotel. It’s very homey and comfortable.

FACILITIES
A live acoustic singer was
positioned at the center of the penthouse on one evening. It was time for dinner. Since the hotel is of soft launch, I actually
was able to consume bottles of beer (complimentary) for quite a few hours. Who would not? When you are seated with a view of the city
lights and a relatively small indoor pool, suited for children, and adults for
a dip and relaxation, as an added facility.
Breakfast is served at their
in-house restaurant which is situated adjacent to the reception area. With a touch of natural elements like live plants
serving as decors, the Meranti Hotel keeps up with its name, as one being close
to nature.
SERVICE
It is a common notion that
when a hotel is relatively new, personnel moves and acts with enthusiasm. But more than the new service it offers, the
staff are indeed cheerful and efficient.
Prompt service is what they offer and I particularly liked it.
If the service continues, I
know this boutique hotel shall in no time be known not just in the neighborhood
of Quezon City’s busy area but in the whole of Metro Manila.
While we lounge at the
lobby, the staff also gave us chocolates to munch, a form of personalized
service.
It is the to-go-to place for friends and families
to bond during weekends and even on a business trip for some corporate
gatherings.
