A FEAST AT THE 15TH MACAU FOOD FESTIVAL
Standing at the lobby of Metropole Hotel where my friends are checked-in, the hotels’ marketing manager asked about our travel plans for the day. We looked at each other and answered “None.” He then suggested that we try the Macau Food Festival and without any hesitation, we heeded the call.
Celebrated
at the same time as the world-famous Macau Grand Prix, this is actually the 15th
edition of the festival. The event is
organized by the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao and
is set up at the Sai Van Lake Square from the 13th to 29th
of November 2015.
THE LANDMARK FOR THE FESTIVAL |
There
are five (5) food zones providing a wide variety of cuisines from all over the
world, namely: Chinese Restaurant Zone, European Delicacies Zone, Asian
Delicacies Zone, Local Delicacies Zone and Dessert Zone. A Korean Village is likewise set up in the
square, specifically at the lower level, where authentic Korean delicacies and
exotic Korean experience is within reach.
Since we are not into Korean cuisine, we took comfort on the familiar,
in the likes of lechon manok and
fried rice.
Desserts
are definitely good. We tried the
Macanese tarts in its original and cheese flavor (tastes more like a lemon).

It
was noticeable how sea foods especially prawns are popular to local residents
and East Asian tourists (Koreans and Chinese).
The queues of the stalls are definitely unbearable for the hungry selves
we have at that moment. Visitors cannot
pay directly by cash to the stalls as coupons need to be purchased in multiples
of five (5) and the same shall be handed down to the vendors.
Apart
from the food stalls, there is a space for carnival games and amusements. The area is flocked by families of different
nationalities and it’s pleasing to know that in a certain way we do have common
games.
We
left the Sai Van Lake Square full and contented. And walked towards the city center of the
Macau Peninsula with a glimpse of the neon lights and the imposing Taipa bridge
and Macau Tower as backdrop of the 2015 Macau Food Festival.
