BEST WESTERN PLUS IVY WALL HOTEL PALAWAN
The flight turbulence was alarming.
I cared less for I have to take the much-needed nap. I was seated at the farther end of the
aircraft on an aisle seat, relatively comfortable. After 1.5 hours, we arrived at Puerto
Princesa International Airport. No
delayed flight.
It was as if everything came prepared and by the clock. From the airport, a shuttle van picked us up
and in less than 10 minutes, a new contemporary edifice of a modern and
minimalist twist façade was right before our senses. Our stay in Puerto Princesa, Palawan this
time will be about the first international business hotel in the city – The
Best Western Plus Ivy Wall Hotel.
At the doorstep, the clear glass walls and the high ceiling marble-tiled
reception area was charming. The
lighting fixtures and the rattan chairs and ornaments at the lounge provided a
grand welcome too. The interior details
are locally-sourced but are definitely world-class when set-up.
Welcome drinks were served while the receptionist process our assigned
rooms. In an instant, we were ushered to
our assigned rooms.
PREMIER ROOM
This modern mid-scale hotel offers 120 rooms and suites, all of which is
equipped with 42-inch LCD televisions, DVD players, mini-bars, spacious work
desks and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. And I was assigned to a Premier Room.
As the first occupant of the room, the smell of paint lingers at the
hallways. The air-conditioned room
itself though is devoid of that smell.
It was conducive to sleeping yet we have to drag ourselves out for
dinner at a nearby restaurant.
The room interior design is well-thought of. It was so detailed that even the wardrobe
closet had wood tiles. Within the closet is the bathrobe, laundry basket,
slippers and the in-room safe.
At one corner is the work station with a comfortable ergonomic
chair. As expected, I opened my laptop
and set up the same as my office for the night.
The ottoman chair on the opposite corner is also a good space to loiter
and meditate while looking at the windows and the scenery outside.
The queen-sized bed was such a comfort.
The thick mattress and duvet along with a number of pillows makes me
want to sleep for hours. Insomnia is
nothing when you have such a comfy bed.
Complimentary breakfast and lunch was served at Anibong Restaurant. It is the hotel’s all-day in-house
restaurant. On the last call for
breakfast time, we dragged ourselves from bed.
But it was worth it.
Filipino cuisine was a standout for breakfast. Bangus, tocino, beef steak and a lot
more landed on my plate. And we had a
festive lunch together with the VIP guests as it was fortunately the Grand
Launch of the hotel.
Breakfast buffet is served in a stylish ambiance in the hotel. The restaurant is quite spacious with
interior details mostly aesthetically made of rattan.
It was a surprise that the chef is a friend of ours, whom we met in a
hostel in Manila. It was an instant
reunion of sort.
AMENITIES AND LOCATION
The hotel has a fitness center and an indoor pool. Loungers are likewise provided within the
pool area. We have planned to swim in
the pool but time did not permit us. It
was actually a choice of lounging in the pool area or to have a drinking spree
and videoke session outside. And of
course, you know what will be our choice.
Best Western Plus Ivy Wall Hotel’s selling point is not only its
world-class service and amenities but its strategic location as well. It is situated at the center of the
city. It is a walking distance to known
restaurants and just across a bar open for unlimited videoke, which we
definitely enjoyed.
For the corporate market, the hotel features a business center, three
meeting rooms and a 300-square meter ballroom and a VIP dining room served by a
private butler and can host intimate dinners.
Catering to different types of market, business and leisure definitely
goes hand in hand at Best Western Plus Ivy Wall Hotel.
