CELEBRATING CHINESE NEW YEAR AT WATERFRONT MANILA PAVILION HOTEL & CASINO
“Is it the year of the goat or the wooden sheep? A goat and a
sheep can never be interchanged, they are totally different. But which one is correct?”
This was the random conversation
as we headed towards our dinner with other media friends at the Waterfront
Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino situated at United Nations Avenue, corner Ma.
Orosa Street, Ermita, Manila.
What’s the resolution? I
still don’t know but most declare it’s the year of the wooden sheep. And so be it.
The spacious lobby of
Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino greeted us and we were ushered to
the Seasons Restaurant, where buffet spread and a short program for the Chinese
New Year await showcasing the Lion and Dragon dance. We were late for the latter.
The culinary choices were
more than enough to feel a New Year’s celebration is taking place. Filipino-Chinese families came to celebrate
the occasion.
The succulent Chinese ham was the first to catch my attention. It was really delicious! The main courses were all delectable that I tried each one of them. There is a corner as well for the Chinese cuisine favorites in the likes of siopao, siomai and no less than the colorful tikoys. A Chinese new year will never be complete without this sweet sticky rice, tikoy, which for the Chinese community is a symbol of prosperity. This Chinese New Year cake is known as Niangao in Mandarin.
In a typical dining
experience, the sweet course concludes the meal. The array of desserts was all gastronomically
appealing to the point that it was hard to choose which one will land on my
plate.
The fruits, cakes and the
bread completed the fusion of Chinese and Western cuisine for a New Year’s
Celebration.
With the warm and hospitable
service of the staff and management complemented by the ambiance, we ended up
as the last guests to be at this banquet.
Seasons Restaurant is just
one of the facilities of the Waterfront Hotel Manila. I have stayed a number of times at Waterfront
Hotel Cebu City and I did enjoy their breakfast buffet – one of the things I
always look forward in my stay. The
brand has truly lived up to its commitment in the hospitality industry. With the excellent service and great gastronomic
treat, I will surely be back for other buffet treats that the hotel offers.
