KOGI BULGOGI

let's get Korean! - kimchi...
I know for a fact that most of Korean cuisine is spicy.  As I am not accustomed to spicy foods and if need be, I shall declare self-imposed hunger strike, one Saturday afternoon randomly and unexpectedly led me and my sister to try a relatively new restaurant at the Gateway Mall of Quezon City.

We were at Kogi Bulgogi.

the dining area
The restaurant is indeed spacious with wooden chairs and tables as part of its homey ambiance.  The interior is a fusion of modern and traditional Korean design. Waiting staff are likewise courteous and attentive enough to guide every guest for a Korean gastronomic experience.

Kogi means beef and Bulgogi is a dish of marinated beef cooked with onions, one of Korea’s most popular dishes.  But there is more to a bulgogi that is worth the dining experience.

the Banchan
The complimentary Banchan – small dishes served with Korean rice – consisting of peanuts, bean sprouts (sookju namul), dried anchovies (my favorite!), sweetened beans, bitter gourd and of course, kimchi, was first served.

For the main course, we had salmon sashimi, Seafood Bokkeum (stir-fried prawns, squid, cream dory and seasoned vegetables) and the famed Dulsot Bibimbap (beef with raw egg).

Dulsot Bibimbap
With the exception of salmon sashimi, all dishes were relatively spicy yet exceptionally delicious.  And for someone not used to spicy foods, I can tolerate the level of spice which makes the dishes even more appetizing.

Dining is best experienced with a group and truly Kogi Bulgogi is one restaurant highly recommended for gathering of family and friends.  I may not be able to vouch its authenticity since I have never been to Korea as of writing, but the fact of having to indulge dining the Korean style would suffice for now.
