2013 KASADYAAN FESTIVAL RITUAL PRESENTATION

Last 29 June 2013, the Leyte Sports Development Center ("Grandstand") was transformed into a gigantic stage of superb and colorful display of cultural-religious presentations which made the audience momentarily freeze for seconds, at awe at what is being fed to their senses.  This is the Kasadyaan Festival Ritual Presentation.

Buyogan Festival of Abuyog, Leyte - Grand Champion of 2013 Kasadyaan Ritual Presentation
This year has six (6) contingents from award-winning festivals of the Province of Leyte.  The Aliwan Fiesta in Metro Manila and the Sinulog Festival in Cebu made these festivals known since time immemorial due to the exemplary performance it stages and even grabbed places and special awards vis-a-vis the equally stunning performances of other known festivals in the country.

Lingganay Festival of Alang-alang, Leyte has been the champion for two (2) consecutive years in Kasadyaan while Buyogan Festival is likewise coming back after two years of rest, also a consistent grand slam champion for this Festival.  Pasaka Festival of Tanauan, Leyte on the other hand has been a consistent placer in the Aliwan Fiesta in Manila, where for this year I was glad I was able to witness it and it awed the audience.

With this briefer, while there may be a few contingents for this year, the show is definitely expected to be a grandeur of cultural-religious presentation staging the best of the best festival presentations in the province and even in the country.

As soon as the Pintados Ritual Presentation was done, the clouds began to clear the skies and prayers may have been answered to give way to the presentation of the best festivals in the province of Leyte.

First contingent was Aliwan Festival's consistent placer, THE PASAKA FESTIVAL OF TANAUAN LEYTE.

Pasaka means an invitation to progress, health and luck for the inhabitants for the upcoming year.  It is a religious homage, cultural dance parade in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption.  A form of thanksgiving for the blessings received and a way of welcoming the visitors.

Then, the next contingent made the audience at awe.  Everyone was mesmerized by the perfect execution of their routine and the colorful and intricate design of costumes and the stage as they perform.  This  is the BUYOGAN FESTIVAL OF ABUYOG, LEYTE.

Buyogan Festival focuses on the bee locally known as "buyog" from which the town's name originated.  Less pictures was actually taken by me while viewing this stunning performance as I can't help but be amazed how talented they were.  This truly made me proud to be from Leyte.

Third contingent is the TULO-USA FESTIVAL OF TOLOSA, LEYTE.

The next contingents presentation is indeed pleasing to the eyes.  Rural life depicted in a stage drama - THE VIAJEDORES FESTIVAL OF LA PAZ, LEYTE

Then, the INDANG FESTIVAL OF HINDANG, LEYTE

And the most colorful contingent was the last one to present.  The defending champion - LINGGANAY FESTIVAL OF ALANG-ALANG, LEYTE.  The crowd goes wild as the next contingent prepares to showcase its ritual presentation and interpretation of their festival.

After that world-class performances, a conclusion has to be made.  And this years' winners are:

GRAND CHAMPION:  BUYOGAN FESTIVAL OF ABUYOG LEYTE with Special Awards of Best in Festival Music and Best in Festival Costume

FIRST RUNNER-UP:  LINGGANAY FESTIVAL OF ALANG-ALANG, LEYTE

SECOND RUNNER-UP:  VIAJEDORES FESTIVAL OF LA PAZ, LEYTE

THIRD RUNNER-UP:  INDANG FESTIVAL OF HINDANG, LEYTE

FOURTH RUNNER-UP:  TULO-USA FESTIVAL OF TOLOSA, LEYTE

FIFTH RUNNER-UP:  PASAKA FESTIVAL OF TANAUAN, LEYTE

This is indeed a must-watch festival in the Philippines.  Truly, the names of these festival will again make a mark as they compete in the Sinulog and the Aliwan Fiesta, as they are consistently on the cream of the crop when it comes to festival dance interpretations.
