The province of Sorsogon boasts of a number of eco-tourism destinations.  For time constraints, it would definitely be impractical and improbable for us to be able to roam around the province and experience all sorts of adventure offered firsthand.

Our last day in Sorsogon on another long weekend of no work was the most relaxing one.  Having comfortably slept at Fernando’s Hotel sans the hangover despite the late night drinking and karaoke spree, a museum and the provincial capitol grounds will be the subject of exploration for the day.

“Where shall we go tomorrow?” While holding a bottle of beer on one hand and on queue for the next song at a nearby bar’s mini stage, the random question was kept hanging.

“Let’s go to Bulusan Volcano Natural Park.”  And so it was decided.  After a few minutes, national news came that Mount Bulusan had a phreatic explosion in the morning of May 1, 2015.  Given the thick rain clouds that covered the summit, the explosion was initially not visible from a distance.

“Is it safe to go there tomorrow?”

“Probably not, for now let’s continue the session”, I so declare.  The continuous rain probably was giving its answer and there were no signs for the same to cease any moment.  We ended the day without any concrete plans of where to wander after.

It was a random decision to depart for Sorsogon.  Acknowledging the fact that bus ticket is elusive and flights are expensive, we have to aim for the former.  My travel buddies Eli and James went straight to Cubao Bus Terminal for the probability of obtaining the tickets even as chance passengers no matter how it cost while I struggle to commute from the office towards the terminal.

In a fortunate turn of events, we were able to secure seats to Legazpi City in an unknown bus line.  I made it on time for the departure.  And so the adventure to explore Sorsogon commenced.

Seated on a van bound for Sorsogon City from Daraga, Albay, a heavy downpour greeted us along the way.  We had nil insights of road directions towards the city, more so with the hotel for which we shall be staying for a number of days.

It was a long weekend - another opportunity to discover a province.  Despite the difficulty of getting confirmed tickets to the Bicol region, we managed to arrive at the city though late of the expected arrival.

Navigating the hotel was easy, with a signage prominently displayed at the national highway and being a walking distance from the Provincial Capitol building.  We informed the driver beforehand of where we shall be dropped-off and fortunately Fernando’s Hotel is known, so less hassle for giving details.
