TACLOBAN CITY | IRONWOOD HOTEL
I
was born and raised in Tacloban City.
Ever since I moved to Metro Manila for higher education and to earn a
living, numbered are the days that I go home, and usually these are for special
occasions. To celebrate the Chinese New
Year and because of a seat sale which my travel buddies have secured for me, I
was able to visit my hometown unexpectedly.
Unexpected
as it is, it is also the first time that I would be staying in a hotel at
Tacloban City. And that would be the
newly-opened (1-day old), Ironwood
Hotel.
THE WELCOMING RECEPTION
Elegantly
dressed like flight attendants with prominent scarf wrapped around their necks,
the lady receptionists greeted us with a smile as soon as our weary and
exhausted selves enter their elegant yet minimalist lobby.
The
materials used in the reception areas’ interior is quite interesting in a mix
of iron (steel) and wood, apt for the hotels name.
We
just came from Kalanggaman Island and in a natural course, didn’t have a decent
bath. It was so comforting that checking
in was done swiftly that we were able to immediately attend to our concerns.
THE ROOMS
We
were booked on a Premier Double room.
The room comes with the basic amenities of LCD flat screen TV, safety
box, closet and two upholstered seats on the corner next to the glass window. (click to check other room types and rates)
I
had a good quality sleep while at the hotel that I wasn’t able to join my
travel buddies as they visit the San Juanico Bridge early morning the following
day. The pillow was so comfortable with
its soft, fluffy and cushiony feel. I
would run out of adjectives to describe how I was satisfied with my deep
slumber because of the pillow and of course the clean and well-maintained
bedsheets.
FIREGRASS TAVERN RESTAURANT
Complimentary
breakfast was served at the hotels in-house restaurant, Firegrass Tavern. The choices include the usual Filipino
favorites of silogs and a continental
breakfast in varied combinations where the standout is the crispy bacon.
The
cozy atmosphere of the restaurant which is next to the reception area is a good
treat for both in-house guests and even those who would like to sample on the
culinary treats of the restaurant.
Since
the hotel is strategically located at the intersection of the two of the
busiest streets of Tacloban City, it is no wonder why the restaurant is widely
received by the residents and visitors for a dining experience. Definitely, they won’t regret it.
Before
we leave for Manila, we had our early dinner at the restaurant and feasted on
their bestsellers.
My
personal favorite is the spicy gambas despite
the fact that I don’t actually eat spicy food.

QUALITY SERVICE
The
hotel has excellent hospitality service.
They are attentive to guests’ needs and always brighten up the mood with
the smiles flashed on their appealing faces.
For convenience of transport service, the
hotel also provided a free shuttle service going to the airport.
ASSESSMENT
I am
just proud of how my hometown has become.
I never saw this coming that one day, the city would be offering luxurious
hotels and will be a popular tourist destination in the country. Ironwood Hotel provides the perfect comfort
to travelers and even business concerns are made personal.
This
is the first modern business boutique hotel in Tacloban City and truly recommended for a stay. And I am more than privileged to be one of the
hotel’s brand ambassador, living up to one of my goals as a travel blogger – to
promote the tourism industry of my home province, Eastern Visayas.
