CEBU | CEBU’S ORIGINAL LECHON BELLY
The province of Cebu is
known worldwide for its lechon (roasted
pig). With that, by-products and
variants of lechon sprouted on each
corner individually claiming to be the original.
On a quite unique
innovation, lechon has been served
headless and boneless, thus, the introduction of the famed lechon belly. Even Metro
Manila has saw a lot of dealers and producers of lechon belly but there can only be one original. Fortunately, we were given the chance to meet
Mr. Marlon Gochan, a good friend of ours and owner of the literal “Cebu’s
Original Lechon Belly”.
Mr. Marlon Gochan, innovator
and creator of the boneless lechon and owner of Cebu’s Original Lechon Belly
has recently been recognized and awarded as 2015 Small Business Entrepreneur
(Food Sector) by the Cebu Chamber Commerce and Industry.
On one Sunday night, we were
welcomed by Mr. Gochan to the relatively new branch at the City Times Square
operating for dine-in and take-out customers fully air-conditioned. The business has come a long way since the
day (3 years ago) my family and I was introduced by my Cebu-based brother to
their first branch at Park Mall across the City Time Square.
I was with my friends on
this latest visit to Cebu City for another feast of lechon. It was the first
time for some in the group to taste test lechon
belly while in Cebu. The huge
serving was a good factor for this small gathering. We sampled on both spicy and regular lechon
belly. We were also served with lechon dugo-dugo (dinuguan as known to
many) and beef stew, bestseller
by-products of lechon. As an added treat, we had leche flan as dessert.

I was really full for the
night. It was more than a night’s meal
as we shared the table. And we were
fortunate to have Mr. Gochan with us as he shares his business plans. With the cozy ambiance the restaurant has, it
is no wonder we were so relaxed eating yet wary (for only seconds) of the high
cholesterol and fat intake.
Indeed, nothing beats the
original.
