"Underwater, I experience space with my body. I'll see a school of fish gathering and moving together and I'll exclaim - This is architecture." - Antoine Predock
If only I would be able to discover for myself the depth of the ocean, swim with the school of fish, be mesmerized by the coral reef formations and breathe underwater, it would certainly be one of a kind experience. But with no underwater camera and lack of confidence in free water dive, the same remains a dream even after my visit to Coron, Palawan.
Nevertheless, on day two of our trip to Coron, aside from the breath-taking lakes of Coron we managed to visit some of the best snorkeling sites of the island. And as for me, I was contented even on the picturesque surface of the waters.
Hidden Lagoon, Coron |
"The seven sins" - this is the English translation of Siete Pecados. The story of how these rock formations over Siete Pecados were formed is quite interesting but the thought that there's something sinly on its existence is more worthy of discovery.
This was our first stop for the day and the rain heavily poured down that it was so cold to even just stay on the outrigger boat. I could not take decent pictures nor was I able to wholly see the landscape of the island formations as I was focused only on the waters that surround us and on means of protecting our personal belongings from being wet.
Fish feeding is not allowed, but once you dive with a bread on hand, a school of fish will surprise you on your face. And even on the surface of the water, the school of fish would be visible, what more under a good weather condition.
HIDDEN LAGOON
Entrance: Free
Then a refreshing site was our next destination as the skies started to clear. The water was so clear and inviting and it was vividly green as if it reflects the verdant and luscious mountains that surround. Contrary to its name, the lagoon is no longer hidden as it is part of every tour package offered to visitors.
TWIN PEAKS
Entrance: Free
As the name speaks for itself, two (2) distinct and imposing limestone rock formations fill the landscape on our next stop. As the weather was unpredictable, we only stayed for minutes and was not able to see the rich marine life underneath which under a good weather condition as they say would permit every visitor a peek even on the surface without having to dive under water.
TWIN LAGOON
Entrance fee: P100.00 per person
And suddenly the unusual limestone rock formations becomes usual and ordinary and the same goes with snorkeling on the different bodies of water. Thus, upon knowing that an entrance fee is again due to be collected, we just passed by the lagoon and off we proceed to our last destination for the day - at last a beach!
And these are but some of the snorkeling sites of Coron, Palawan.

Though I was able to take a peek on the life under the sea with the colorful and vibrant colors of the coral reef formations and the school of fish, I know it wasn't enough.
Thus, "I shall return."
