THE FIRST 5-STAR HOTEL IN SOUTHEAST ASIA: HOTEL INDONESIA KEMPINSKI JAKARTA
If there is one thing I regret on our Indonesia trip, it is the limited time spent at Jakarta, Indonesia. Warned of the fact that the city has the world’s worst traffic congestion, on the contrary we did not experience the same. Why? Because 90% of our time was spent on luxurious comfort and pampering – at the 5-star and world class Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta.
We arrived at almost 10 in
the evening. It is easy to locate the
hotel as right in front is the “Welcome Statue”, intended to welcome guests who
visited Jakarta on the occasion of the Fourth Asian Games in 1962. It is indeed strategically located at the heart
of the capital.
I honestly had no idea that
our booked hotel is that grand. The hotel
imposes strict security measures on all ingress and egress of the hotel. Upon arrival, the spacious and chic-decorated
lobby and reception area already gave us a hint of the type of accommodations
we are to experience.
Checking-in was a
breeze. The usual presentation of IDs and
passport follow and off we were ushered to our respective assigned rooms. Assigned alone in one room, I can’t help but
think of my family and other friends as it would have been merrier if I shared
the same with them. But with the whole
week of exploring Indonesia, we had no energy to explore the city and do the
usual drinking spree, and due to exhaustion, I immediately dozed off and
continuously went in deep slumber.
EXECUTIVE GRAND DELUXE
My assigned room comes with
a view – a not so ordinary view. The
roundabout (“Bundaran Hi”) landmark, featuring the iconic fountain and the
welcome statue became a pleasant treat for my first morning in Jakarta,
Indonesia.

The Executive Grand Deluxe
room has state-of-the-art bathroom offering exquisite indulgence. And that was the very first thing I noticed
aside from the generous space that the room has. The oversized bathtub overlooking
the city and a separate flat-screen TV placed in the bathroom can make me stay
there for a number of hours.
Among the room features and
amenities include: in-room coffee/tea facilities, laptop-size safe, flat-screen
TV, and a working desk, which I had the chance to use for my work commitments.
KEMPINSKI SPA
Open daily from 8AM to 11PM,
the Kempinski Spa is part of the luxurious package one can get while at the
hotel. We had our scheduled spa
treatment in the afternoon before we go back to Manila.
The professional therapists
uses the finest natural products and herbs.
It was truly rejuvenating and I had a short nap. The room itself
likewise served as a sanctuary and a treat away from the fast paced corporate
lives that we have.
THE SANCTUARY
Roaming around the vicinity
of the hotel, we have noted recreational facilities available to guests. In what they collectively call as the
sanctuary, among these facilities are the spa, fitness center, sauna, steam
room and a swimming pool in their cozy rooftop garden.
There’s a rooftop bar as
well but we opted to skip the drill of drinking and relaxing at the area as we
have scheduled dinner at their in-house restaurant before we leave for Manila
at night.
SIGNATURE RESTAURANT
The in-house restaurant of
the hotel provides a warm and welcoming ambiance. The Signature is situated at the hotel lobby
between the Ganesha and Ramayana wings.
The wall is likewise decorated by picture frames of Indonesia’s first
President.
Our complimentary breakfast
and dinner buffet were served at the said restaurant. I particularly liked the kind of efficient
service their personnel provided. There
are times the manager and even some waiting staff would visit one table to
another and converse with guests to make them feel at home and relaxed. Dining options include Western, Asian and the
best European bakery products. Their
desserts are a must-try including traditional Indonesian cuisine.
The restaurant is a
recommended dining place for visitors not only of the hotel but of Jakarta. Indeed, we are fortunate to have experienced
the hospitality service of the revived first 5-star hotel of Southeast Asia.
