INFORMAL AND CONTEMPORARY DINING AT MANDARIN ORIENTAL HONGKONG
Central
Hongkong is the central business district of the Hongkong Territory. Glancing at the tall and unique architectural
designs of the skyscrapers that surround, it would appear a challenge for the
group to be able to experience comfort food housed in a dining area of luxury.
Fortunately,
we were led to one of the known structures of the area, the Mandarin Oriental
Hongkong. In no time, we were seated
comfortably at Café Causette, one of the in-house restaurants of the hotel, for
dinner and all ready for another gastronomic treat of Asian and Western
cuisine.
For
a five-star hotel such as the Mandarin Oriental Hongkong, a dining experience
would surely equate to a fancy one where guests are dressed elegantly
fashionable. Maintaining the
restaurant’s sophistication, it's actually a good family friendly restaurant. At one corner, I saw coloring pencils being
used by a child as the family dines. And
of course, guests can come on suitable comfortable attire.
Menu Favorites
As I
go over the menu list, I noticed that the restaurant boasts of gluten-free
options. While this may not be
applicable for our group, it definitely caters to guests with special dietary
requests.
It
was a dining feast in our case. For a
group of five in one table, we had difficulty in placing our orders as most in
the menu are tempting and a restaurant’s specialty cuisine.
HAINAN CHICKEN RICE (BABY PAK CHOY, GARLIC, CHILI SAUCE, RICE) AT 268HKD |
FISH AND CHIPS (BATTERED, COD, CHIPS, TARTARE SAUCE) AT 248HKD |

BEEF SATAY (SKEWER, SPICE, PEANUT SAUCE) AT 28HKD PER PIECE |
Asian
favorites such as Nasi Goreng and Hainan Chicken Rice has been the top choices. The thin-crust pizza is surprisingly good as
well. My personal favorite was the Cheung Fun, a beef tenderloin complemented by onions and black pepper.
Looking
at the window, signs of a new season coming- winter - was prominent as the
trees begin to sway in the Central District.
In time for the season, there were beverages offered exclusively available
during the winter season.
The
desserts are a must-try as well. The home-made sorbet has a twist. It's a surprise that one can get drunk while eating sorbet as it is whisky-based. And I actually got dizzy after several spoonful consumed.
HOME-MADE ICE CREAM AND SORBET AT 48HKD PER SCOOP |
CRISPY CHOCOLATE DEVIL CAKE (WHISKY ICE CREAM) AT 88HKD |
Dining Experience
You
can go casual and informal when dining at the Café Causette despite the
intimidation that it gives as being an in-house restaurant of a luxurious
hotel. Business meeting and casual
rendezvous after and even during office hours can be had at the said
restaurant.
The
dining area is not crowded and spaces are provided for each guests to obtain
the privacy they long for dining. Truly,
this is one of the perfect spots to dine when at the Central District.
