UAE | TAKING REFUGE AT DUBAI MALL
Heat
is unbearable on the outdoors. The temperature continues to rise as I arrive in
Dubai and this will be my last day at UAE.
Window shopping and simply loitering in malls is not new to me but the
world-record holders of attractions at the Dubai Mall is an opportunity that I
should be grateful of.
The
Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping mall based on total area. There are numerous retail shops and
restaurants in this intricately and elegantly designed mall that walking for
minutes or even hours becomes manageable.
THE METRO STATION |
With
the instructions of my friend, Shera, working in Dubai, I managed to get
through the efficient metro station of Dubai Mall and passed through the
footbridge with the world’s tallest artificial structure in view, the Burj Khalifa.
ENTRANCE TO DUBAI MALL FROM THE METRO STATION |
The
intention on why Dubai Mall will serve as our rendezvous is for a good vantage
of the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa. For some minor revisions on my schedule while
in Dubai, I would not be able to visit the observatory deck. And so I have to be contented on a worm’s eye
perspective.
It
has occurred to me that I have always postponed any visit to an observatory
deck while already there. To name a few,
the Tokyo Sky Tree of Japan, the Petronas Towers of Malaysia and the Shanghai
World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower of China are some of the missed
observatory decks to visit. I have let
an opportunity slip. But for most of the
times apart from time constraints, it is the budget. On my next visit to the said countries, I’ll
try to allot time for a good vantage of the cityscape and landmarks through
these tallest observatory decks.
THE DUBAI AQUARIUM |
Another
world-record holder featured at Dubai Mall is the imposing Dubai Aquarium and
Underwater Zoo. The Dubai Aquarium is
one of the largest tanks in the world featuring one of the world’s largest viewing
panel. I was really amazed of how
massive the aquarium is. It is said to
house more than 33,000 living animals, representing more than 85 species
including over 400 sharks and rays combined.

SHARKS AND SCHOOL OF FISH |
For a
close encounter experience with the underwater animals, there is an acrylic
walkthrough tunnel that of course comes with a fee. The lunar-cyclic lighting system will change
the ambiance of the tank depending on the time of the day. I have witnessed how scuba divers clean the
huge tank as the mall opened that day and it was truly awesome!
Even
just from the outside and without having to shell out for admission fees, the
Dubai Aquarium will definitely fascinate every passerby.
THE AQUARIUM IN VIEW |
As
we move to the other side of the mall proximate to the famed Dubai Fountain, a
unique concept of an interior design came into view known as “The waterfall”. The installation and aesthetic work is truly
interesting worthy of commendation. It
complements well with the restaurants and shops that surround the interiors.
THE UNIQUE INTERIOR DESIGN |
THE WATERFALL |
And
before we settled at a coffee shop, the mandatory photoshoot outdoor with the
Burj Khalifa as backdrop commenced, unmindful of the intense heat on a midday.
THE TOURIST SHOT UNDER THE INTENSE HEAT |
Who
cares of the endless perspiration when it’s not every day we get to experience
the said weather and the landmarks. The
Dubai Mall was my refuge after the intense heat not to mention the fact that
majority inside the mall are Filipinos. If not for the unique architectural
designs, it feels like I never left the Philippines.
