CEBU'S ORIGINAL LECHON BELLY
A truly festive Filipino dining experience would always require the presence of lechon. The fire-roasted to golden brown with crackling skin, succulent meat and aroma to die for is truly a gastronomic and "sinful" delight. The Visayas region in the Philippines is known for the best lechon makers and that the province of Cebu particularly stands out in the limelight.
But Cebu's Original Lechon Belly is interestingly unique from the rest, being the first of its kind to be introduced in the Philippines. Prepared in a Cebuano-tasting style lechon yet served boneless and the best part - belly - a taste of lechon would no longer be restricted and enjoyed only in fiestas but on any day you would want to be treated.
I was first introduced to Cebu's lechon belly when our whole family spent the last day of the year 2013 at Cebu City and we dined al fresco at one of the malls of the province, Park Mall- Mandaue. Since then, a visit to Cebu province would not be complete without a dining experience of the lechon belly albeit long queues. Worth the wait indeed.
But the good news is - not only Cebuano's would have the chance of a gastronomic lechon belly experience as it has been available in the Metropolitan Manila for quite some time now and more plans of expansion is in the process.
The process of deboning only the whole pork belly/side of the pig, spiced with special ingredients then slowly roasting-out with open-charcoal fire was conceptualized back in August 2011 by Mr. Marlon Gochan, which now has become a reality and ready to be served on everyone's plate.

Along with Christian of Lakad Pilipinas and Carla of Blissfulguro, off we went to Eastwood Mall for a dinner to try both the regular and spicy flavored lechon belly. Special thanks to the friendly and accommodating staff and service crew of Eastwood branch, to Mr. Wendel Gerong and of course, Mr. Marlon Gochan for the treat.
Lechon Belly Overload
It was an overload of tasty and delicious lechon belly as our group shared over a one-kilo serving. With specially-made condiments direct from Cebu City, the gastronomic experience was truly beyond our expectations. No leftovers definitely and plates were as clean as it was first served after cravings for lechon was satisfied.

Everyone in Metro Manila is aware that a lot of lechon commercial establishments would always make a reference to their dish as the one's made in Cebu. For a number of times specially to those who lived in Cebu and the Visayas region, the authenticity of the sprouting lechon stalls and kiosks have been questioned. But Cebu's Original Lechon Belly is authentically made in Cebu and in fact shipments are made everyday straight from Cebu to Metro Manila. It is that fresh and authentic!
Class, this is how to eat puso. haha! |
