WANCHAI HONGKONG | COSMO HOTEL
For
the many times I’ve been to Hongkong, this will be the second time I’ll be
staying at the Wan Chai area.
The first time was through a recommendation by my sister when we stayed
at the vicinity together with my siblings and parents.
The
Wan Chai area and the Causeway Bay, two of the bustling city centers of
Hongkong, are accessible when one stays at the Cosmo Hotel. On this recent visit, it has served as a
basecamp for a discovery of alleys serving authentic Chinese cuisine at the
cheapest and reasonable cost.
With
my luggage in tow and after minutes of walking in a series of concrete ascents
and descents, we were able to locate Cosmo Hotel at ease, situated at a main
road of Wan Chai.
The Rooms
After
presentation of passports at the reception area, check-in process was done
swiftly. We were assigned to an
Executive Room equipped with broadband internet connection and a number of
amenities that caters to business needs.
A PEEK FROM THE WINDOW |
One
feature of the room that stands out apart from the simple interiors is the great
vantage of Hongkong Island's skyscrapers as seen from the glass window. In-room features are practical and useful to
travelers and businessmen alike.
For
pure relaxation, the 18-square meter room has a 20-inch flat-screen TV with
satellite and local TV channels, a writing desk, tea and coffee maker and a
mini-bar. (click for other room types and rates)
MOUNTED TV ON A PLAIN INTERIOR |
And
what’s the most useful of all? The
complimentary use of smart phone with free 3G Internet and personal hotspot for
multi-device connectivity, local calls and IDD calls to Australia, Canada,
China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, UK and US. The Philippines may not be included for the
IDD calls but it doesn’t matter to me for as long we can have internet access
on the whole duration of our stay in Hongkong.
But the same is actually available now on almost all hotels in
Hongkong. This is one thing which makes
me love to visit Hongkong more often, as internet charges way back home can be
kept on hold.
THE FREE USE OF SMART PHONE |
As
we settled at our rooms after check-in at the reception area, we were
accompanied by one of the duty managers of the hotel who personally explained
to us the amenities of the room. In the
course of his explanation, what was retained in me was the all-natural green
amenities which includes the Tarocco skin
care products, Jurlique essential oil, handpicked organic teabags and leafy
houseplant available for reservation made via the hotel’s website and upon
request.

Patio
THE PATIO INTERIORS |
There
is one area in the hotel which has become a rendezvous for the group. Situated at the 5th floor known as
the Breeze, there is free internet,
coffee and fruits available to in-house guests.
The entire hotel is smoke-free except for this area. Since I am not a coffee lover and I also don’t
smoke, I just hang out with my travel buddies at the said area, avail of the
free internet, and eat fruits and converse.
The
gray wooden interiors of the patio emits
a relaxing vibe as if one becomes closer to nature despite the skyscrapers that
surround. It becomes a haven within the
urban zone of Hong Kong.
Shuttle Service
While
in Hongkong, it helps a lot if your hotel offers a free shuttle service to your
desired destination. Cosmo Hotel offers
bus routes to 16 destinations including free service to Causeway Bay (Causeway Bay Plaza 2), Wan Chai (HKCEC), Admiralty (Admiralty Center), Central (AEL
Hong Kong Station), Quarry Bay (Taikoo
Place and City Plaza) and Ocean Park (at
a cost) and a lot more destinations.
For
time constraints, we were not able to avail of the said shuttle service but
this is one factor which guests should consider in the selection of hotels
while at Hong Kong.
Service
WHERE RESERVATIONS FOR SHUTTLE SERVICE IS MADE |
The
4-star hotel has attentive and courteous on-duty managers, receptionists and
utility personnel. It is one of the
strengths of the hotel which I hope should be sustained even by top management.
They
respond to guests’ queries swiftly and helpful.
Our stay may be brief yet with the experience we have of staying at
hotels, we can basically tell and answer the imposed repetitive questions we
have within the group relative to a hotel’s strengths and weaknesses.
