The SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Philippines is a destination in itself.  It is said to have raised the standard of shopping, recreation, leisure and entertainment in the country.  Thus, the bay side of the mall is no other than the perfect venue for a spectacular showdown of lights and sounds making the skies of Metro Manila come alive.  This is the 5th Philippine International Pyromusical Competition

The participants for this years competition are:  Australia, Spain, United Kingdom, France, Japan, China, Germany, Finland, Canada, United States of America and the Philippines.

I have always planned of attending the said event since it opened 5 years ago, but plans remain as such. Thus, when invited to cover the event as part of the media on the 8 of March 2013 for the showcase of China and Germany, who am I to refuse.  This is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity and my first to be invited as a travel blogger.

As we arrived at the SM Mall of Asia Sea Side area, a festive mood greeted us with live beat of the drums.

Apart from the much-awaited pyromusical competition, there are a lot of activities in store for the spectators.

Tickets can be bought any SM ticket booth, ticketnet and ticketworld outlets, priced at: PhP100.00 (silver); PhP300 (gold); PhP500.00 (VIP) and PhP1,500.00 (patron inclusive of dinner)

As the sun begins to set over the most-photographed Manila Bay, we were ushered to the VIP-Media area. Indeed, being early at the venue for this magnificent event produces countless perks.  As I have always wanted to capture the sunset of the Manila bay but failed to do so on a number of times for the improper venue, the event made me realize such dream.

Having been ushered to the VIP area with an exclusive spot for the media, a free dinner was served.  But before feeding my stomach, I was able to wander on the vicinity and indeed there are a lot of activities in store before the much-awaited event.  Truly, perfect for bonding with family and friends.

And when darkness began to fill the skies of the metro, the spectators then settled for their seats and cameras began to be positioned at the best vantage points.  At around 8 in the evening, the show then started.  First to perform was the Liuyang New Year Fireworks of the People's Republic of China.

The Liuyang New Year Fireworks Manufacturing Co. Ltd. have made their mark having been in the industry since 1976, by making quality fireworks that are unique and enjoyable to watch.  Safety is of high importance to this multi-awarded fireworks company.

The next presenter was the Vulcan Europe of Germany.  Vulcan is made up of a team whose passion and enthusiasm for fireworks have made them a big name in the outdoor fireworks industry in Europe.

Vulcan Europe of Germany take pride in creating state of the art and world class pyromusical shows and together with their mother company, Vulcan Display Fireworks China, they ranked first place in 2009 and 2nd place in 2010 during the International fireworks competition Hannover Germany and 2nd place in the 2010 world fireworks championship in Oman.

Indeed, this is a different perspective of spending the Saturday nights in the metro.
