CHELSEA KITCHEN: THE CASUAL DINING EXPERIENCE

Passing by Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare, EDSA, is a constant for me.  A yellow signage in bold letters will caught any passers-by attention while northbound.  The façade of the new building of Mega Mall displays the prominent signage of H&M and Chelsea Kitchen.

On one weekend, together with my favorite travel buddies, we converged at Ortigas area and stayed at Holiday Galeria.  And for our dinner, we decided to try Chelsea Kitchen.  Having tried other sister restaurants of Chelsea, under the Raintree Group, no objections were made then.  The dinner is expected to be sumptuous and satisfying.

At the ground floor of the SM Mega Fashion Hall, the open kitchen restaurant of Chelsea can’t be missed out.  The level of illumination and the casual no-frills ambiance is perfect for any guest.

After the never-ending sharing of stories, we were then seated to feast for dinner.  The Iced Latte (PhP195.00) was a great starter.  The espresso and creamy milk has a good blend in this version of Chelsea.

Orders were placed in the table by batches.  We had a shared meal, though some meals are good for only one.  Chorizo arroz a la Cubana and Loco Moco Burger Steak are among the restaurant’s specialty dishes.

The ground beef of Chelsea’s arroz a la cubana is made of chorizo (pork sausage) and when complemented with strips of crispy fried bacons on top, their version makes it more special when compared to the usual.

The Loco Moco Burger Steak is actually my favorite.  Served with sunny side up egg and crispy fries, the thickness of the burger patties with a generous spread of gravy is too difficult to resist, notwithstanding my self-declaration of being on a diet.  If asked by friends what to order at Chelsea Kitchen, I would definitely recommend this dish.  It’s made of char-grilled US beef.

CK Chicken Salad (PhP250.00) and the Chili Lime Chicken and Chorizo Nachos (PhP320.00) were the choices of some friends who are not into heavy dinner.  I sampled a few servings for a taste and I enjoyed the salad.  The CK Chicken Salad is a combination of char-grilled Asian pesto chicken, peanut plum dressing, fresh basil, cilantro and mint and Asian slaw.

The 4-hour Cola Ribs (PhP420.00) is another group favorite.  The succulent ribs dipped in sweet and spicy BBQ sauce that comes with a pickle is not only gastronomically appealing but a stomach-satisfying one.  I recall consuming the dish to the last meat left and even made the serving plate as my own.  Whatever happened to my diet plan.

The Smoked Tinapa Agli Olio Pasta (PhP320.00), made of angel hair, fresh basil, wild arugula, pepperonicini, cherry tomatoes and herb crumbs is another house specialty.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to taste it.  I was busy trying out other dishes that it was immediately consumed when I already had the chance.  It was highly recommended though by those who tasted it, which makes me want to come back and sample for myself the next time around.

One in the group ordered cheese burger (PhP395.00) for his cravings.  He looks satisfied though so I guess it’s good.

Summing up the Chelsea Kitchen dining experience, the semi-al fresco (inside the mall) dinner, given that it’s shared with your good friends, was even made more enjoyable because of the casual ambiance and the good food served by the restaurant at a reasonable cost.
