PORTA VEGA BEACH RESORT

DIMASALANG, MASBATE - Who would have thought that a town declared as an election hotspot in the country would likewise be at the verge of being known in the tourism industry.

This quaint and sleepy town of Masbate boasts of fine sandy beaches worthy of visit.  Interestingly, most of the islands and beaches of this town is owned by private individuals and politicians.  Luckily, before election day, I was able to join a family who visited Porta Vega Beach Resort.  And I thank them for making my stay in Masbate for the elections memorable and full of adventures. (let's set aside posts of political nature for this one)

A day before the national and local elections (May 12, 2013), a family invited me to join them at Porta Vega Beach Resort to experience the other side of Dimasalang, Masbate.  Their family owns the beach resort.  Without any hesitation, I agreed.

From the port of Dimasalang, we boarded a motorboat designed to accommodate at least 20 people.  The sky was almost dark as if rain was about to pour any minute, but our trip would never be postponed.  As we traverse the waters, the limestone rock formations and islands where coconut trees lined up was a constant view.  The journey was smooth sailing and the water was calm then.

After a few minutes, we are now at our desired destination.

I couldn't help myself compare the sand and the waters with other popular beach destinations in the country, as my restless feet touched the shores.  Indeed, the sand was so fine and powdery white and can even compete with the sands of the Boracay Island.

As for the waters, it was shallow, refreshing, and clear and on some portions reveal the rich marine life underneath.  The sea urchins, starfish, stingless jellyfish and a school of fish on a variety were a mainstay in the island.

It was refreshing to feel the cool breeze of the island and witness the children enjoying the perfect surroundings with their kite flying.

For an adventurous gastronomic experience, there are sea urchins available.

A chapel also stands at the said beach, with a remarkable architecture amidst a well-maintained landscape.

There are cottages also available for rent and an overnight stay may be allowed.  One can also pitch tents within the vicinity.

A beer brand which is available mostly in the Visayas region is also available in Masbate. This post comes with a caveat that I am no official endorser of such brand.

Porta Vega Beach Resort is known to locals of Dimasalang Masbate as a venue for family get-aways, reunions and even for the simple cause of wandering.  I"m grateful for the family who accommodated me and let me experience one of the finest beaches of Masbate.

For this special trip, special thanks to:  Governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete, Congressman Scott Davies Lanete, mayoralty candidate Edgar De Lara and all his supporters for the warm welcome.
